"If you always do what you always have,
You'll always get what you always got"
I have been helping families since 2005 (which is kind of ironic because I was always told I should have been some type of counsellor, lawyer or doctor.) To be honest, I never in a million years thought I would be helping individuals like myself or families like mine. But there was a bigger plan for me and I couldn't be happier. I love helping people find their own gifts, powers and drive to overcome their own challenges. I use a very direct, and honest approach because I would expect the same if someone was trying to help me.
Experience
I have been told I am hard worker, a quick hands on learner and a born leader, which may have some truth as I was the only 12 year old when I began offering my parent's shed as a free summer camp/school for all the neighborhood kids. I was awarded Volunteer of the Year in Hamilton for my work with individuals with physical and/cognitive disabilites. I loved working with seniors as well, which led me down that path of helping others. Over the years, I climbed corporate ladders and involved myself with community events. and organizations.
In 2003, I faced my most difficult challenge and that was battling my husband's addiction.
Like everything else in my life, I jumped in with both feet and learned as much as I could about it, and the systems that support it. I learned from the school of hard knocks and teach what I wasn't taught.
Importance of Self Care
Everything starts from within our own beings. How we care for ourselves and others- starts with us. How we access support- starts with us. How we respond to situations- starts with us.
How we succeed in any aspect of our lives- starts with us.
We must care for ourselves first; so we can truly do what is best for others.
